戲劇是綜合表演藝術，從一開始音樂在中西戲劇都佔有重要位置，只是西方戲劇一路發展之後，音樂在戲劇的角色漸漸淡化。後來出現歌劇與音樂劇，音樂重奪主導位置，時至今天，音樂在戲劇又擔當甚麼角色？這次【讀癮起】演讀的兩個作品中，音樂都不可或缺，是音樂與戲劇緊密結合的例子。

表演講

這次表演講分為兩部份。【讀癮起】2026演讀的兩個作品都屬於音樂劇場，表演講的第一部份將拋磚引玉，與觀眾探討戲劇與音樂的關係，為觀眾入場先作導賞，增加觀賞趣味。

本地近年出現了不少表演講活動，這次表演講第二部份將邀請國際演藝評論家（香港分會）總經理陳國慧及作家俞若玫，與本團藝術總監胡海輝一起探討此趨勢。

《北平黑夜》A Brutal Beautiful Death

原創音樂劇場創作《北平黑夜》，是胡海輝及孫麥凱繼《金童子》（Gweilo）後全新嘗試。1937年，北平城牆下發現一具白人妙齡少女的屍體，屍身被人開膛剖腹，內臟遭摘除！女子是Pamela Werner，當時英國駐華大使的女兒，案件震動北平，緝兇過程揭露當時北平底層的華洋圈子，三教九流，如鴉片煙霧般神祕迷惑，可是不久中日戰爭爆發，此案成為世紀懸案，因此亦吸引了本團藝術總監胡海輝的注意，深感案件極具戲劇性，決定與孫麥凱聯手把案件改編成音樂劇場新作，這次將先作階段試讀，收集觀眾意見後，期待進一步發展。

In the freezing morning of 7 January 1937, Peking, under the haunted Fox Tower, a horrifically mutilated body was found. Some organs, including the heart and the uterus were removed. It was identified to be Pamela Werner, the daughter of an ex-British consul. The murder soon took the historic city by storm, while a torturous war was looming…

Based on a true story, A Brutal Beautiful Death is an original music theatre drama by Micah Sandt and Hoi-fai Wu, their latest collaboration after Gweilo. This stage-reading performance is a work-in-progress presentation to invite feedbacks for the future full-scale production.

《不雅》Indecent by Paula Vogel

Paula Vogel是美國著名編劇，憑著How I Learned to Drive（香港曾上演，譯名為《未成年少女的駕駛課程》）獲得普立茲文學獎，亦是資深編劇導師，在布朗大學及耶魯大學任教，培養美國劇壇不少年輕才雋。《不雅》是她2017年的作品，以美國劇壇一宗真實案件為藍本。猶太裔編劇Sholem Asch於1907年寫了《復仇之神》一劇，原本此劇在歐洲巡迴演出甚獲好評，誰知搬到美國舞台上演，卻因其中一場戲描述了兩個女子的愛慕之情而引起軒然大波，最終被禁演之餘，全劇製作人員也被逮捕。《不雅》於2017年上演時大受歡迎，劇本獲提名東尼奬、戲劇聯盟獎、外評論家協會獎等多個獎項。

本團曾於2020年演讀此劇，可惜礙於防疫措施限制，當時只能招待少量觀眾，因此我們將再次演讀，希望更多觀眾分享到這齣精彩傑作。
